<p>Huskies are a special breed of dogs that have unique requirements in terms of care. As a furparent, it’s your responsibility to provide them everything they need, whether that’s a loving, comfortable home or the best food possible.</p>

<p>That said, it&#8217;s not unusual for problems to arise every now and then. For instance, maybe your Husky has stopped eating their dry food, even if you try to hand-feed them. Like most furparents, this probably got you concerned and worried about your precious furbaby.</p>

<p>If you’re wondering why your Husky won’t eat dry food, then don’t fret – you’ve come to the right place.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">5 reasons why your Husky won’t eat dry food</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" fetchpriority="high" width="1024" height="683" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-kateryna-babaieva-4206707-1024x683.jpg" alt="husky with a tongue out" class="wp-image-447" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-kateryna-babaieva-4206707-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-kateryna-babaieva-4206707-300x200.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-kateryna-babaieva-4206707-768x512.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-kateryna-babaieva-4206707-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-kateryna-babaieva-4206707-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-kateryna-babaieva-4206707-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-kateryna-babaieva-4206707-696x464.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-kateryna-babaieva-4206707-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-kateryna-babaieva-4206707-1920x1280.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption> Photo by Katrina Babaieva on Pexels</figcaption></figure>

<p>There are many reasons why your Husky won’t eat dry food. Here are some of the most common ones.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The food is low-quality</h3>

<p>One thing you have to know about Husky breeds before we go further is that they’re good at holding off eating.</p>

<p>Historically, Huskies are descended from a breed of sled dogs found in the <a href="https://www.tribes.world/chukchi" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chukchi Peninsula</a>. These dogs were bred specifically to become working dogs and to aid the Chukchi people as they hunted, traded, and did other similar activities.</p>

<p>Since the entire area was often covered in snow, there wasn’t always a lot of food available. Due to this, these sled dogs developed a type of metabolism that could keep their energy up for a long time even without food intake.</p>

<p>In other words, Huskies are good at skipping meals, especially if they don’t like the food. This includes poor-quality kibbles. If your Husky thinks that the dry food you’ve provided isn’t good enough, they won’t think twice about skipping it and waiting for something better to come their way.</p>

<p>To combat this problem, simply replace his regular dry food with a higher-quality variety. Brands that have fresh ingredients listed first are better than those that have corn, rice, and other grains.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">They’re bored</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="682" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3274989-1024x682.jpg" alt="husky lying down on the grass with a leaf" class="wp-image-448" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3274989-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3274989-300x200.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3274989-768x512.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3274989-1536x1023.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3274989-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3274989-696x464.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3274989-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3274989.jpg 1732w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Julissa Helmuth on Pexels</figcaption></figure>

<p>Just like people, Huskies can get bored of their food as well. If all they’ve been eating for a while is dry food, it’s not unusual for them to get tired of it eventually.</p>

<p>Luckily, the solution for this is pretty easy. You can add some wet food, gravy, or toppings to your dog’s regular dry food to improve its taste and texture. You can also add human food like cooked chicken breast and pig liver to switch things up.</p>

<p>If you still have some milk formula for dogs, you may also want to add warm milk to their bowl of kibbles. The kibbles will soften in the milk, making it more palatable and much easier to eat.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">They’re stressed or anxious</h3>

<p>Despite their <a href="https://huskyhabits.com/why-do-huskies-look-like-wolves/">wolf-like appearance</a>, Huskies are actually quite sensitive dogs. They get stressed over things like moving houses, a new pet, or noisy people. They can also get stressed over minor changes, like simply moving their food bowl someplace else.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In addition to this, Huskies are also known to suffer from <a href="https://huskyhabits.com/do-huskies-have-separation-anxiety/">separation anxiety</a>, which is a whole different topic altogether.</p>

<p>Of course, if your Husky is stressed or anxious, it’s very likely for them to stop eating not just dry food, but all kinds of food in general. Be very observant and watch out for other signs of stress and anxiety, like pacing, whining, panting, yawning, and licking, among many others. Luckily, this typically doesn’t last for more than a day.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">They have dental issues</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3726315-1024x683.jpg" alt="angry looking husky puppy" class="wp-image-449" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3726315-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3726315-300x200.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3726315-768x512.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3726315-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3726315-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3726315-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3726315-696x464.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3726315-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-julissa-helmuth-3726315-1920x1280.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Julissa Helmuth on Pexels</figcaption></figure>

<p>Dental issues are difficult for everyone, humans and Huskies alike. These issues can range from tooth decay, bad gums, and other related issues.</p>

<p>Since dry food is much firmer than wet food, any Husky with dental issues may find it much more difficult to eat the former than the latter.</p>

<p>Remember, your Husky won’t be able to tell you straight out if they have a bad toothache, so, once again, you have to use your observation skills. Symptoms include refusal to eat hard foods or treats, slow chewing, excessive drooling, and resistance whenever you touch their face or mouth area.</p>

<p>If your Husky is dealing with dental issues, the best way to help them with this is to simply go to the vet to get the proper treatment.</p>

<p>That said, prevention is always better than cure, so to avoid such issues in the future, make sure to brush your dog’s teeth regularly and to give them special treats that can help with their dental health.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">They’re feeling ill</h3>

<p>If you Husky has underlying health issues, it’s only natural for them to lose their appetite. This doesn’t just include dry food, but also all kinds of food in general.</p>

<p>One of the health issues that can cause a lack of appetite is Zinc deficiency. This is very common in Husky breeds.</p>

<p>Again, observation should be your strong suit here. If your dog still doesn’t eat after 2 days, there could be something else that’s up. Schedule an appointment with the vet for a thorough check-up.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to get your Husky to eat dry food</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-kateryna-babaieva-2853130-1024x683.jpg" alt="husky sitting down with open mouth" class="wp-image-450" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-kateryna-babaieva-2853130-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-kateryna-babaieva-2853130-300x200.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-kateryna-babaieva-2853130-768x512.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-kateryna-babaieva-2853130-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-kateryna-babaieva-2853130-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-kateryna-babaieva-2853130-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-kateryna-babaieva-2853130-696x464.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-kateryna-babaieva-2853130-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/cpexels-kateryna-babaieva-2853130-1920x1280.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Katrina Babaeiva on Pexels</figcaption></figure>

<p>Now you know why your Husky won’t eat dry food. To help improve their appetite, you can do the following:</p>

<ul><li><strong>Provide high-quality dog food.</strong> As mentioned above, Huskies can easily pass up on dog food that they deem poor quality.</li><li><strong>Mix up their food every now and then.</strong> You can even add human food to make their food tastier for them.</li><li><strong>Create a strict schedule.</strong> Doing so will regulate your dog’s appetite.</li><li><strong>Ensure they’re getting proper exercise.</strong> Huskies need to burn off their energy to feel completely hungry.</li><li><strong>Keep their dental health in tip-top shape.</strong> A bad toothache can make eating dry food much more difficult than it should be.</li><li><strong>Have them checked by your local vet regularly.</strong> Making sure they’re always healthy is part of your responsibility as a furparent.</li></ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Final thoughts</h2>

<p>As you can see, there are many reasons why your Husky won&#8217;t eat dry food. In this article, we learned the following:</p>

<ul><li>Huskies can afford to skip meals due to their excellent metabolism.</li><li>Low-quality food, boredom, stress and anxiety, dental issues, and underlying health problems are some of the reasons why a Husky won’t eat dry food.</li><li>To get a Husky to eat, you can switch their dry food, add toppings or wet food, provide a more comfortable space, and get them checked out at the vet.</li></ul>

<p>Huskies are a very popular breed <a href="https://huskyhabits.com/why-do-huskies-look-like-wolves/">descended from ancient sled dogs</a>. Since they’re used to the frigid temperatures of the Arctic region, you shouldn’t be surprised if your Husky seems to prefer going outside on cold days instead of staying inside your heated house.</p>

<p>In this article, we’ll find out if huskies like the cold weather and everything else you need to know about this topic.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Do Huskies like the cold weather?</h2>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="682" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/photo-nic-zc4MEZMdXhc-unsplash-1024x682.jpeg" alt="white and grey husky out in the snow" class="wp-image-421" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/photo-nic-zc4MEZMdXhc-unsplash-1024x682.jpeg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/photo-nic-zc4MEZMdXhc-unsplash-300x200.jpeg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/photo-nic-zc4MEZMdXhc-unsplash-768x512.jpeg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/photo-nic-zc4MEZMdXhc-unsplash-1536x1024.jpeg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/photo-nic-zc4MEZMdXhc-unsplash-2048x1365.jpeg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/photo-nic-zc4MEZMdXhc-unsplash-150x100.jpeg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/photo-nic-zc4MEZMdXhc-unsplash-696x464.jpeg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/photo-nic-zc4MEZMdXhc-unsplash-1068x712.jpeg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/photo-nic-zc4MEZMdXhc-unsplash-1920x1280.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Image by Photo Nic on Unsplash</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Generally speaking, Huskies like the cold weather. As mentioned above, they are direct descendants of <a href="http://www.bbc.com/earth/story/20161014-in-1925-a-remote-town-was-saved-from-lethal-disease-by-dogs#:~:text=breeds.-,Huskies,-are" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">sled dogs</a>, which lived outdoors in barns or in insulated dog houses. They can easily withstand temperatures as cold as -60 degrees F (-51 degrees C.)</p>

<p>Modern-day Huskies have already evolved to adapt to modern conditions, but they still retain many of their ancestors’ traits, including the preference for cold weather.</p>

<p>That said, despite being bred to thrive in freezing temperatures, it’s still important to give your Husky equal amounts of time indoors and outdoors.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Can Husky puppies get cold?</h2>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-1024x683.jpg" alt="husky puppy sitting on the grass" class="wp-image-161" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-300x200.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-768x512.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-696x464.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-1920x1280.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Julissa Helmuth from Pexels</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Just like human babies, Husky puppies haven’t exactly reached their full development and therefore they cannot tolerate cold weather as much as Husky adults do.</p>

<p>The coat of a Husky puppy cannot provide the level of protection needed to withstand cold temperatures. That is why extra care and protection should be given to puppies during winter, at least until their coats develop enough to provide them the protection they need.</p>

<p>This means that even if you have a separate dog house for your Huskies, it might still be best to keep the puppies indoors with you at night to protect them from extreme temperatures.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How Cold can Huskies tolerate?</h2>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Snow-Husky-Unsplash-James-Padolsey.jpg" alt="husky pulling a sled in the snow" class="wp-image-295" width="800" height="600" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Snow-Husky-Unsplash-James-Padolsey.jpg 800w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Snow-Husky-Unsplash-James-Padolsey-300x225.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Snow-Husky-Unsplash-James-Padolsey-768x576.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Snow-Husky-Unsplash-James-Padolsey-150x113.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Snow-Husky-Unsplash-James-Padolsey-696x522.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /><figcaption>Photo by James Padolsey on Unsplash</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Huskies can adapt to live just about anywhere, be it in cold weather or hot weather. As mentioned above, Huskies can tolerate negative temperatures, just like their ancestors.</p>

<p>However, safety precautions should still be taken especially when you’re planning to leave them outside for a prolonged period of time. This is especially true if the weather is rainy or snowy.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How do Huskies survive the cold?</h2>

<p>So, what exactly makes Huskies stand the cold better than other dog breeds?</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Their coats and fat act as insulation</h3>

<p>While it’s not alright to have an overweight Husky, they should still have a healthy amount of fat. Along with their double-coated fur that tends to <a href="https://huskyhabits.com/why-is-my-malamute-shedding-in-winter/">shed during winter</a>, a healthy layer of fat on their bodies gives them extra protection by allowing better heat retention.</p>

<p>Their coat serves two purposes. The long, outer layer prevents snow from seeping into the undercoat due to its water-resistant characteristic. On the other hand, the shorter undercoat forms a dense layer of insulation to keep their body warmer.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Their ears are protected with hair</h3>

<p>Inside every Husky’s sensitive ears are fine hairs that can help protect them from the cold. Since these hairs are pretty thick, they act as natural earmuffs that can help retain heat and prevent frostbite.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Their tails are fluffy enough to keep them warm</h3>

<p>Huskies love sleeping all curled up with their tail covering their nose. This actually serves a purpose, since their fluffy tails can help keep them warmer in the winter months. Their tails also help them keep their nose moist while still allowing them to breathe warm air.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Their paws heat up when they run</h3>

<p>Your dog’s paw pads do more than just protect them from the hard ground. As they walk and run around, the blood circulates from their pads through their legs, which helps warm them up. In short, the more your Husky is active, the more they feel warmer. And since Huskies love being active, this means they hardly feel the cold when they’re outside.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Can Huskies Be Kept Outside In The Cold?</h2>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/milano-negro-siberian-husky-1291343_1920-1024x768.jpeg" alt="husky walking on snow ground" class="wp-image-376" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/milano-negro-siberian-husky-1291343_1920-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/milano-negro-siberian-husky-1291343_1920-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/milano-negro-siberian-husky-1291343_1920-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/milano-negro-siberian-husky-1291343_1920-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/milano-negro-siberian-husky-1291343_1920-150x113.jpeg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/milano-negro-siberian-husky-1291343_1920-696x522.jpeg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/milano-negro-siberian-husky-1291343_1920-1068x801.jpeg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/milano-negro-siberian-husky-1291343_1920.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Milano Negro on Unsplash</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Huskies are <a href="https://huskyhabits.com/what-is-it-like-to-own-a-husky/">very active dogs</a> who love to run and play outside. If you want to let your Husky sleep outside, make sure that they have a comfortable dog house that’s properly insulated. It should also be large enough to accommodate them and give them ample space to move and play.</p>

<p>Also, bedding is very important, as it helps make your Husky more comfortable. Avoid using blankets or fabrics as they may eventually freeze when dogs track snow into the doghouse. Hay or straw are your best bets as they’re absorbent and warm. Their water bowl should be the heated variety as well to prevent their water from turning into a big chunk of ice during the winter night.</p>

<p>That said, keep in mind that they do have their limits, as well. If you see that they’re not doing too well outside, regardless of the temperature, it’s a better option to bring them inside the house. This should be the case in warmer temperatures, as Huskies can’t handle the heat as well as they handle the cold.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How To Know When Your Husky Is Too Cold</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-1024x683.jpg" alt="husky being petted by a human" class="wp-image-152" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-768x512.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-696x464.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-1920x1280.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Hoang-Mai Nguyen from Unsplash</figcaption></figure>

<p>While it’s true that Huskies like cold weather, it’s important to look out for signs that may suggest that they’re getting too cold:</p>

<ul><li>Holding a paw up off the ground</li><li>Shivering or shaking excessively</li><li>Refusing to continue walking</li><li>Gradually becoming slower with their movements</li><li>Looking anxious or uncomfortable</li><li>Displaying a hunched back with a tucked tail</li><li>Whining or crying</li></ul>

<p>Seek a warmer place as soon as you notice any of the aforementioned signs. Letting your Husky stay cold for a long time may lead to hypothermia and frostbite–two serious conditions that can still happen to huskies, despite their extreme resilience.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Final Thoughts on Huskies and Cold Weather</h2>

<p>As you can see, Huskies not only handle cold weather, they also like it, at least to some degree. That said, there are some precautions to take before leaving your Husky in the cold.</p>

<p>In this article, we learned that:</p>

<ul><li>Huskies are specifically bred to withstand cold temperatures, but they still have a limit.</li><li>Extra precautions should be taken when leaving your Husky outside in the cold, including providing them with a well-built and insulated dog house.</li><li>Some signs to look out for are excessive shivering, gradual slowing, and refusal to walk.</li></ul>

<p>Huskies are some of the healthiest dog breeds in the world. That’s not a surprise, considering they come from a long line of active dogs who traveled all day long and developed good endurance and stamina. Their metabolism is also rather excellent, allowing them to run for literally hours at a time without getting too tired. But with this much physical activity, we have to wonder — do Huskies suffer from arthritis?</p>

<p>Unfortunately, <strong>Huskies not only suffer from arthritis, but they’re also more prone to getting this joint disease. </strong>In this article, we’ll learn more about arthritis in Huskies, what the symptoms are, and what you can do to prevent it.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Do Huskies suffer from Arthritis?</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/joe-007-dog-3139757_1920-1024x683.jpg" alt="sad dog do huskies suffer from arthritis" class="wp-image-352" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/joe-007-dog-3139757_1920-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/joe-007-dog-3139757_1920-300x200.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/joe-007-dog-3139757_1920-768x512.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/joe-007-dog-3139757_1920-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/joe-007-dog-3139757_1920-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/joe-007-dog-3139757_1920-696x464.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/joe-007-dog-3139757_1920-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/joe-007-dog-3139757_1920.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Joe007 on Pexels</figcaption></figure>

<p>Since Huskies are endowed with <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/06/science/06dogs.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">fast-paced metabolism</a>, high endurance, and muscular physiques, they are natural-born runners who are able to cover long distances over extended periods of time.</p>

<p>Sadly, these excellent traits come at a price. Huskies are at an exceptionally high risk of developing osteoarthritis. Just like in humans, osteoarthritis in dogs is a disease that is caused when the cartilage around the joint bones starts wearing off. This causes the bones to rub against each other, causing mild to severe pain and even limited mobility.</p>

<p>With most dog breeds, osteoarthritis is something that usually only happens in old age. But since Husky breeds are naturally predisposed to it, arthritis can start in Huskies that are as young as a few years old. The symptoms may not start showing until years later, however.</p>

<p>Another health problem that can lead to arthritis is canine dysplasia. This is also a very common hereditary disease in purebred Huskies. When a Husky is born with dysplasia, it means their joints weren’t formed properly, causing problems in their body. As they grow older, this will eventually result in arthritis.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What are the signs of arthritis in Huskies?</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="767" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hans-braxmeier-siberian-husky-60045_1920-e1628513087408-1024x767.jpg" alt="husky curled up" class="wp-image-350" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hans-braxmeier-siberian-husky-60045_1920-e1628513087408-1024x767.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hans-braxmeier-siberian-husky-60045_1920-e1628513087408-300x225.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hans-braxmeier-siberian-husky-60045_1920-e1628513087408-768x575.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hans-braxmeier-siberian-husky-60045_1920-e1628513087408-150x112.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hans-braxmeier-siberian-husky-60045_1920-e1628513087408-696x522.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hans-braxmeier-siberian-husky-60045_1920-e1628513087408-1068x800.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hans-braxmeier-siberian-husky-60045_1920-e1628513087408.jpg 1396w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Hans Braxmeier on Pexels</figcaption></figure>

<p>Here are some signs to look out for if you think your Huskies have arthritis.</p>

<ul><li>Limping</li><li>Lethargy</li><li>Unwillingness to get up, run, or play</li><li>Sudden change in behavior</li><li>Unusual weight gain</li><li>Pain when being touched</li><li>Accidents inside the house</li><li>Loss of muscle mass</li></ul>

<p>If you see at least two or three of these signs, it’s time to schedule a visit to the veterinarian. The vet will take an X-ray of your Husky’s joints to determine where he or she really has arthritis. If it’s confirmed to be arthritis, the vet will recommend suitable treatments to alleviate your dog’s pain.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to prevent arthritis in Huskies</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="681" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/heis-animal-793260_1920-1-1024x681.jpg" alt="sad husky suffering from arthritis" class="wp-image-355" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/heis-animal-793260_1920-1-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/heis-animal-793260_1920-1-300x199.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/heis-animal-793260_1920-1-768x510.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/heis-animal-793260_1920-1-1536x1021.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/heis-animal-793260_1920-1-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/heis-animal-793260_1920-1-696x463.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/heis-animal-793260_1920-1-1068x710.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/heis-animal-793260_1920-1.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Heis on Pexels</figcaption></figure>

<p>While arthritis is a completely treatable disease, that doesn’t mean it’s nothing to worry about. Keep in mind that arthritis is a very cruel disease for breeds as active as Huskies, who are used to playing, jumping, and running all day long. Arthritis can severely limit and, in extreme cases, even hinder that completely.</p>

<p>Here are some things you can do to prevent arthritis in Huskies.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Watch out for warning signs</h3>

<p>Arthritis doesn’t come from nowhere. It’s a disease that takes months and years to fully develop. In order words, it’s impossible for a Husky to not have it one day and then suddenly have it the next day. So if you see some early symptoms in Huskies, be sure to check with your vet immediately.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Have them tested for hip dysplasia</h3>

<p>Dogs with dysplasia are more likely to get arthritis as they grow up, and dysplasia is a very common disease among Huskies. As a precaution, have your Husky pups tested for hip or elbow dysplasia as soon as possible, which is typically around 4 months old for hip dysplasia and 5 months old for elbow dysplasia.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Don’t let them get too heavy</h3>

<p>Overweight Huskies are more likely to develop arthritis since the excess weight causes additional stress on the joints. Keep your Huskies at a normal weight to lower their chances of developing arthritis someday.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Use joint supplements</h3>

<p>Supplements can help keep your Husky’s joints healthy and promote healthy cartilage development. You can also feed them foods rich in Omega-3 like <a href="https://huskyhabits.com/can-huskies-eat-fish/">fish treats</a> or fish oil.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Final thoughts</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="785" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tran-mau-tri-tam-dog-1160443_1920-1024x785.jpg" alt="husky on the floor" class="wp-image-354" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tran-mau-tri-tam-dog-1160443_1920-1024x785.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tran-mau-tri-tam-dog-1160443_1920-300x230.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tran-mau-tri-tam-dog-1160443_1920-768x589.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tran-mau-tri-tam-dog-1160443_1920-1536x1178.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tran-mau-tri-tam-dog-1160443_1920-150x115.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tran-mau-tri-tam-dog-1160443_1920-696x534.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tran-mau-tri-tam-dog-1160443_1920-1068x819.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tran-mau-tri-tam-dog-1160443_1920.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Tran Mau Tri Tam on Pexels</figcaption></figure>

<p>So, do Huskies suffer from arthritis? <strong>Yes, it’s actually very common in Huskies.</strong> Luckily, it’s completely treatable and preventable, with the right steps.</p>

<p>In this article, we learned that:</p>

<ul><li>Huskies can suffer from arthritis</li><li>Arthritis and dysplasia, which can lead to arthritis, are common in Husky breeds</li><li>Limping, lethargy, pain when touched, and unwillingness to get up are symptoms of arthritis</li><li>Use preventive measures to ensure that your Husky won’t get arthritis</li></ul>

<p>Picture this: you&#8217;re eating mango in the kitchen, quietly enjoying this sweet, healthy snack. Suddenly, your pet Husky enters, sniffing the air. Maybe he wants to try some. Maybe you personally think it would be adorable to see your Husky eat a mango. Whatever your reasons might be, the critical question is the same: can my Husky eat mango?</p>

<p>Although it&#8217;s not the first thing that comes to mind when we talk about Husky treats,&nbsp;<strong>fruits such as mangoes can actually be pretty good for them.</strong>&nbsp;However, there are some things that you have to consider first before doing so.</p>

<p>In this article, we&#8217;ll tell you how your Husky can enjoy eating this delicious and healthy golden fruit.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Can My Husky Eat Mango?</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="651" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-2360551_1920-1024x651.jpeg" alt="can my husky eat mango" class="wp-image-279" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-2360551_1920-1024x651.jpeg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-2360551_1920-300x191.jpeg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-2360551_1920-768x488.jpeg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-2360551_1920-1536x976.jpeg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-2360551_1920-150x95.jpeg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-2360551_1920-696x442.jpeg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-2360551_1920-1068x679.jpeg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-2360551_1920.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Liwanchun on Pixabay</figcaption></figure>

<p>Actually, yes, your Husky can eat mangoes – but only in moderation.</p>

<p>Mangoes are excellent tropical fruits. They have a distinct juicy flavor that everyone, including your Husky, can enjoy. They also contain a lot of nutrients and offer a lot of health benefits.</p>

<p>In the next section, we&#8217;ll discuss those benefits and how they can help your Husky become stronger and healthier.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Benefits of Mango for Huskies</h2>

<p>Aside from how delicious it is, mangoes contain many&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.webmd.com/diet/health-benefits-mango#1" rel="noreferrer noopener">vitamins, minerals, and even antioxidants</a>. This is good news for us humans because we can enjoy this sweet treat&nbsp;<em>and</em>&nbsp;still be healthy.</p>

<p>But this is also good news for our furry friends because mangoes offer them lots of benefits too! Here are some perks to feeding your Huskies mango.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Mangoes are Rich in Vitamins</h3>

<p>Mangoes contain a lot of vitamins that can be beneficial to your Husky&#8217;s health, such as vitamins A, C, B6, E, and K. These vitamins offer multiple benefits for your beloved pet.</p>

<p>For example, coat health is vital for Huskies. Since they originated from Earth&#8217;s colder regions, Huskies developed a double coating of beautiful and protective fur. Today, their fur is one of their most defining features.</p>

<p>The vitamin A in mangoes can help in keeping your Husky&#8217;s coat fluffy and luxurious. Remember, vitamin A deficiency can cause a dull coat, multiple skin and coat illnesses, stunted growth, and even night blindness.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Mangoes are Rich in Minerals</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/simon-rae-jY_2XG-6HU0-unsplash-1024x683.jpeg" alt="husky lying on cold snow" class="wp-image-278" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/simon-rae-jY_2XG-6HU0-unsplash-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/simon-rae-jY_2XG-6HU0-unsplash-300x200.jpeg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/simon-rae-jY_2XG-6HU0-unsplash-768x512.jpeg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/simon-rae-jY_2XG-6HU0-unsplash-1536x1025.jpeg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/simon-rae-jY_2XG-6HU0-unsplash-2048x1366.jpeg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/simon-rae-jY_2XG-6HU0-unsplash-150x100.jpeg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/simon-rae-jY_2XG-6HU0-unsplash-696x464.jpeg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/simon-rae-jY_2XG-6HU0-unsplash-1068x712.jpeg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/simon-rae-jY_2XG-6HU0-unsplash-1920x1281.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Simon Rae on Unsplash</figcaption></figure>

<p>Zinc is one of the essential minerals for maintaining your Husky&#8217;s health. In fact,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/zinc-responsive-dermatosis-in-dogs" rel="noreferrer noopener">Zinc deficiency</a>&nbsp;is a common and severe problem affecting many Husky breeds such as Siberian Huskies and <a href="https://huskyhabits.com/do-malamutes-make-good-pets/">Alaskan Malamutes.</a> It often results in lesions and other skin conditions.</p>

<p>Luckily for your precious pooch, mangoes are&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://healthyeating.sfgate.com/minerals-mangos-have-1747.html" rel="noreferrer noopener">rich in minerals</a>, such as Potassium, Selenium, and, more importantly, Zinc. Giving a piece of mango to your Husky once in a while can help them maintain their Zinc levels.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Mangoes are High In Fiber and Antioxidants</h3>

<p>Mangoes are filled with fiber and antioxidants. Fiber helps in balancing blood sugar and blood glucose. Fiber also has water-absorbing properties, so it can help your Husky lose a few pounds and stay active longer.</p>

<p>On the other hand, antioxidants serve as the body&#8217;s detox agent, neutralizing harmful substances in your Husky&#8217;s body.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Possible Risks For Huskies</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/avinash-kumar-TIGDsyy0TK4-unsplash-1024x768.jpeg" alt="can my husky eat mango" class="wp-image-280" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/avinash-kumar-TIGDsyy0TK4-unsplash-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/avinash-kumar-TIGDsyy0TK4-unsplash-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/avinash-kumar-TIGDsyy0TK4-unsplash-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/avinash-kumar-TIGDsyy0TK4-unsplash-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/avinash-kumar-TIGDsyy0TK4-unsplash-2048x1536.jpeg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/avinash-kumar-TIGDsyy0TK4-unsplash-150x113.jpeg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/avinash-kumar-TIGDsyy0TK4-unsplash-696x522.jpeg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/avinash-kumar-TIGDsyy0TK4-unsplash-1068x801.jpeg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/avinash-kumar-TIGDsyy0TK4-unsplash-1920x1440.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Avinash Kumar on Unsplash</figcaption></figure>

<p>Too much of something is never a good thing.&nbsp;Similar to other treats like <a href="https://huskyhabits.com/can-huskies-eat-sweetcorn/">sweetcorn</a> and <a href="https://huskyhabits.com/can-huskies-eat-fish/">fish</a>, Huskies can benefit from eating mangoes, but overfeeding is still a no-no.</p>

<p>In addition to this, you also can&#8217;t feed your Husky an unprepared mango, especially if it&#8217;s unpeeled or served with its pit.</p>

<p>When feeding mangoes to your Husky, always peel and remove the fruit&#8217;s pit first. The peel, although not outright dangerous, can be hard to digest.</p>

<p>On the other hand, mango pits are a dangerous choking hazard. They may even contain trace amounts of cyanide. Don&#8217;t forget to call your vet immediately if you think your dog might have swallowed one.</p>

<p>Lastly, even if you serve peeled and cut mango to your Husky, too much fruit and vegetables can still give them diarrhea and stomach pains. Again, be sure to feed them mangoes in moderation.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Final thoughts</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-3485606_1920-1024x683.jpeg" alt="mangoes for huskies" class="wp-image-285" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-3485606_1920-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-3485606_1920-300x200.jpeg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-3485606_1920-768x512.jpeg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-3485606_1920-1536x1025.jpeg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-3485606_1920-150x100.jpeg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-3485606_1920-696x464.jpeg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-3485606_1920-1068x713.jpeg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/mango-3485606_1920.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Yaser Al-Mulqi on Unsplash</figcaption></figure>

<p>Huskies make great pets for plenty of reasons. They&#8217;re lovable, huggable, adorable, funny &#8211; we could fill an entire book with adjectives, and it still wouldn&#8217;t be enough to describe how precious our Huskies are. That said, if you&#8217;ve ever taken care of a Husky, you&#8217;ve probably noticed something strange about their behavior towards other animals. In fact, the thought, &#8220;why does my Husky attack small dogs?&#8221; has probably crossed your mind more than a few times.</p>

<p>If this is what you&#8217;re going through right now, don&#8217;t fret! In this article, we&#8217;ll answer&nbsp;<strong>all your questions about Husky aggression</strong>, particularly towards smaller dogs.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why does my Husky attack small dogs?</h2>

<p>We know it hurts your heart just thinking about your Husky attacking small dogs, but it turns out that there&#8217;s actually a variety of reasons why it could be happening.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Huskies are naturally dominant</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="680" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/aureanne-mailhiot-N5AHY2dk1mU-unsplash-1024x680.jpg" alt="why does my husky attack small dogs angry husky" class="wp-image-154" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/aureanne-mailhiot-N5AHY2dk1mU-unsplash-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/aureanne-mailhiot-N5AHY2dk1mU-unsplash-300x199.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/aureanne-mailhiot-N5AHY2dk1mU-unsplash-768x510.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/aureanne-mailhiot-N5AHY2dk1mU-unsplash-1536x1020.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/aureanne-mailhiot-N5AHY2dk1mU-unsplash-2048x1360.jpg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/aureanne-mailhiot-N5AHY2dk1mU-unsplash-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/aureanne-mailhiot-N5AHY2dk1mU-unsplash-696x462.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/aureanne-mailhiot-N5AHY2dk1mU-unsplash-1068x709.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/aureanne-mailhiot-N5AHY2dk1mU-unsplash-1920x1275.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Auréanne Mailhiot from Unsplash</figcaption></figure>

<p>Dogs, in general, are&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.siberianhuskyvic.org.au/breed/overview-pack.html" rel="noreferrer noopener">hierarchical animals</a>, more so with larger breeds like Huskies. This means that, in the wild, Huskies naturally form rankings with their packs to assess the strongest individual, also known as the &#8220;top dog&#8221; or &#8220;alpha male.&#8221;</p>

<p>If you haven&#8217;t given your Husky a clear structure at home, him attacking your smaller dogs may signify that he&#8217;s trying to position himself at the top of the hierarchy. He&#8217;s basically asserting his dominance over his smaller counterparts.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Huskies have strong predatory instincts</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-1024x683.jpg" alt="baby husky" class="wp-image-161" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-300x200.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-768x512.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-696x464.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-1920x1280.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Julissa Helmuth from Pexels</figcaption></figure>

<p>In addition to being naturally dominant, Huskies have strong predatory instincts as well. Like most common working and hunting dogs, they were trained for centuries to go hard on their prey.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Huskies, in particular, have&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/husky-ancestors-sled-dog-dna-180975180/" rel="noreferrer noopener">ancestors</a>&nbsp;that regularly foraged the surroundings for small animals to hunt during long trips.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This could be why your beloved pet has a habit of attacking smaller living things. Like their ancestors, their predatory instincts are triggered when they see smaller, presumably weaker animals, allowing them to see those other dogs as prey.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Huskies can be overly protective</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ugur-arpaci-wOvSiqf9pZM-unsplash-1024x683.jpg" alt="huskies showing teeth" class="wp-image-153" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ugur-arpaci-wOvSiqf9pZM-unsplash-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ugur-arpaci-wOvSiqf9pZM-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ugur-arpaci-wOvSiqf9pZM-unsplash-768x512.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ugur-arpaci-wOvSiqf9pZM-unsplash-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ugur-arpaci-wOvSiqf9pZM-unsplash-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ugur-arpaci-wOvSiqf9pZM-unsplash-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ugur-arpaci-wOvSiqf9pZM-unsplash-696x464.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ugur-arpaci-wOvSiqf9pZM-unsplash-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ugur-arpaci-wOvSiqf9pZM-unsplash-1920x1280.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Ugur Arpaci from Unsplash</figcaption></figure>

<p>More than just dominance, your Husky&#8217;s aggression towards smaller dogs could be an expression of its protective instincts. Aside from hunting and working, Husky ancestors were also bred to protect their owners and their pack.</p>

<p>This means that your dog is likely to be on heightened alert most of the time. It could be lead your pooch to view other dogs, especially smaller and typically more energetic dogs, as potential danger.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Your Husky may not be socialized enough</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="792" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tadeusz-lakota-TuZAfYl6IK4-unsplash-1024x792.jpg" alt="aggressive dogs" class="wp-image-155" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tadeusz-lakota-TuZAfYl6IK4-unsplash-1024x792.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tadeusz-lakota-TuZAfYl6IK4-unsplash-300x232.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tadeusz-lakota-TuZAfYl6IK4-unsplash-768x594.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tadeusz-lakota-TuZAfYl6IK4-unsplash-1536x1188.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tadeusz-lakota-TuZAfYl6IK4-unsplash-2048x1585.jpg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tadeusz-lakota-TuZAfYl6IK4-unsplash-150x116.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tadeusz-lakota-TuZAfYl6IK4-unsplash-696x539.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tadeusz-lakota-TuZAfYl6IK4-unsplash-1068x826.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tadeusz-lakota-TuZAfYl6IK4-unsplash-1920x1486.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Tadeusz Lakota from Unsplash</figcaption></figure>

<p>Lack of socialization with other dogs might also be making your Husky more aggressive. Huskies are territorial animals by nature, and they&#8217;re used to fending off attacks by other dogs in the wild.</p>

<p>If your Husky isn&#8217;t used to other dogs, chances are they could view them as dangerous. This, combined with a high prey drive, could be why your Husky attacks small dogs.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">You reinforced the wrong behavior</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-1024x683.jpg" alt="petting a husky" class="wp-image-152" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-768x512.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-696x464.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/hoang-mai-nguyen-N2NTyu5QmT8-unsplash-1920x1280.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Hoang-Mai Nguyen from Unsplash</figcaption></figure>

<p>You might also be unwittingly encouraging your Husky&#8217;s aggressive behavior towards smaller dogs, even without meaning to. For instance, do you give your dog toys or treats to stop them from being hostile? While it may give you momentary peace, it&#8217;s also teaching your Husky that being aggressive will lead to rewards.</p>

<p>Instead of positively reinforcing that behavior, redirect your Husky&#8217;s attention with neutral commands, such as sitting still or lying down.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to stop your Husky from attacking other dogs</h2>

<p>Here are two tips to help your Husky become friendlier towards other dogs.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Proper socialization</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-1024x683.jpg" alt="why does my husky attack small dogs puppy" class="wp-image-161" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-300x200.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-768x512.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-696x464.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/pexels-julissa-helmuth-3478875-1920x1280.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Julissa Helmuth from Pexels</figcaption></figure>

<p>If your Huskies are still puppies, it&#8217;s important to get them acquainted with dogs of all breeds and sizes as early as possible. Doing so can drastically minimize their aggression towards other dogs in the future.</p>

<p>This is obviously more difficult if your Husky is already an adult, but it&#8217;s still possible. Make sure to keep them on a leash as you slowly introduce them to other dogs.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Behavioral training</h3>

<p>If there&#8217;s one thing that can override Huskies&#8217; aggressive and dominant attitude, it&#8217;s strict behavioral training. Always reinforce positive behavior instead of negative behavior, like giving your dog yummy <a href="https://huskyhabits.com/can-huskies-eat-fish/">fish</a> or <a href="https://huskyhabits.com/can-huskies-eat-sweetcorn/">sweetcorn</a> treats when he&#8217;s behaving well.</p>

<p>If your dog is particularly stubborn, you can always hire a qualified trainer. A trainer would know more about how your pet&#8217;s mind works and can help bring out the lovable Husky that we all know is there.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Final thoughts</h2>

<p>We&#8217;ve discussed possible answers to the question &#8220;Why does my <mark>Husky attack</mark> small <mark>dogs</mark>?&#8221;</p>

<p>In this article, we learned that:</p>

<ul><li>Huskies are naturally dominant and have strong predatory instincts, leading them to see small dogs as prey</li><li>Poorly socialized Huskies may view other dogs as danger</li><li>Huskies can be overly protective against new dogs</li><li>You might be accidentally encouraging aggressive behavior</li><li>It&#8217;s best to train and socialize your Husky to prevent him from attacking small dogs</li></ul>

<p>Can Huskies eat fish? Most dogs go crazy from the smell of fish, and that includes Huskies. After all, it&#8217;s chock full of protein and other nutrients that dogs need.</p>

<p>From that alone, it&#8217;s easy to conclude that feeding your Huskies fish is okay and even healthy. But that&#8217;s not the end of the story.&nbsp;<strong>Even if Huskies can eat fish, there are still some factors that must be considered, such as the kind of fish, whether it&#8217;s raw or cooked, and the recommended feeding amount.</strong></p>

<p>Knowing the answers to these is vital to keep your beloved Husky healthy and happy. Ready to find out more in this article? Read on!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Can Huskies eat fish?</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="665" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-tranmautritam-69433-1024x665.jpg" alt="cute tongue can huskies eat fish" class="wp-image-137" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-tranmautritam-69433-1024x665.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-tranmautritam-69433-300x195.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-tranmautritam-69433-768x498.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-tranmautritam-69433-1536x997.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-tranmautritam-69433-2048x1329.jpg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-tranmautritam-69433-150x97.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-tranmautritam-69433-696x452.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-tranmautritam-69433-1068x693.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-tranmautritam-69433-1920x1246.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Tranmautritam on Pexels</figcaption></figure>

<p>If you&#8217;re asking if Huskies can eat fish in general, then&nbsp;<strong>the short answer is yes.</strong></p>

<p>As mentioned, fish is a significant&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.doh.wa.gov/communityandenvironment/food/fish/healthbenefits" rel="noreferrer noopener">source of protein</a>, a nutrient that your Huskies need to grow strong muscles. It&#8217;s also a unique source of other essential nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, and even iodine.</p>

<p>According to studies, the omega-3 fatty acids in fish even help decrease inflammation, making it ideal for older Huskies that are more likely to suffer from inflammation-related illnesses.</p>

<p>Fish is also an ideal substitute protein source for dogs with allergies to the more common meat options, such as chicken. However, keep in mind that fish has lower calories and lacks plenty of other nutrients that Huskies need. If you&#8217;re thinking of feeding your Husky a primarily fish-based diet, you should first consult a veterinary nutritionist to make sure that all your Husky&#8217;s nutritional needs will be met.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s also important to observe your Husky if giving it fish for the first time. Give only a small portion at first, and then wait for 10-30 minutes to see if he&#8217;ll experience stomach discomfort or allergic reactions. Only if your Husky&#8217;s completely fine should you proceed.</p>

<p>To summarize, yes, Huskies can eat fish, as long as you make sure that they&#8217;re not allergic to it and that you&#8217;re still meeting their nutritional needs.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Can Huskies eat raw fish?</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-energepiccom-3650159-1024x768.jpg" alt="can huskies eat raw fish" class="wp-image-135" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-energepiccom-3650159-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-energepiccom-3650159-300x225.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-energepiccom-3650159-768x576.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-energepiccom-3650159-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-energepiccom-3650159-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-energepiccom-3650159-150x113.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-energepiccom-3650159-696x522.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-energepiccom-3650159-1068x801.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-energepiccom-3650159-1920x1440.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Energepic on Pexels</figcaption></figure>

<p>As a general rule, you should take extreme caution when feeding your Huskies any kind of raw meat, including fish.</p>

<p>Raw fish can contain harmful organisms, such as roundworms, tapeworms, flukes, that can make your dog sick if they catch it. In addition to that, it can also contain toxic heavy metals, which can be very dangerous to your dog when ingested.</p>

<p>Even if your Husky isn&#8217;t directly affected by whatever pathogens there were in the fish, the possibility of cross-contamination is still there. Once he&#8217;s infected, he could&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/vet/spd.htm" rel="noreferrer noopener">transfer those pathogens</a>&nbsp;to other animals or even people.</p>

<p>In other words, t&#8217;s best to stick with cooked fish. Cooking with fire will kill all of the pathogens in the fish, leaving only the beneficial nutrients and vitamins like omega-3.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Can Huskies eat sardines? Salmon? Tuna?</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/fengyou-wan-L2E584RsxPY-unsplash-1024x683.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-140" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/fengyou-wan-L2E584RsxPY-unsplash-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/fengyou-wan-L2E584RsxPY-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/fengyou-wan-L2E584RsxPY-unsplash-768x512.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/fengyou-wan-L2E584RsxPY-unsplash-1536x1025.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/fengyou-wan-L2E584RsxPY-unsplash-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/fengyou-wan-L2E584RsxPY-unsplash-696x464.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/fengyou-wan-L2E584RsxPY-unsplash-1068x713.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/fengyou-wan-L2E584RsxPY-unsplash.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption> Photo by Fengyou Wan on Unsplash</figcaption></figure>

<p>There are many fishes in the sea, but not all of them are good for Huskies.</p>

<p>Large and long-lived fishes, like swordfish and tuna, can have a higher build-up of the heavy metals that can poison your Huskies. It&#8217;s best to avoid them, just to be safe.</p>

<p>Instead, only feed your dog short-lived fish, like salmon, whitefish, flounder, and herring. Sardines can also be a decent choice as an occasional treat or food topper.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Can Huskies eat fish bones?</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/portugal-1350682_1920-1024x683.jpg" alt="Can huskies eat fishbones?" class="wp-image-138" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/portugal-1350682_1920-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/portugal-1350682_1920-300x200.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/portugal-1350682_1920-768x512.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/portugal-1350682_1920-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/portugal-1350682_1920-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/portugal-1350682_1920-696x464.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/portugal-1350682_1920-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/portugal-1350682_1920.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by 2427999 on Pixabay</figcaption></figure>

<p>Dogs have a teeth structure that can grind down meat and even large bones but aren&#8217;t as good at chewing fine, sharp objects such as fish bones.</p>

<p>Those shards can lodge in their gums, throat, intestines, and stomach. At best, it would hurt your poor Huskies. At worst, their organs could be perforated, resulting in an expensive operation.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How much fish can Huskies eat?</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-oziel-gomez-1578445-1024x683.jpg" alt="how much fish can huskies eat" class="wp-image-136" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-oziel-gomez-1578445-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-oziel-gomez-1578445-300x200.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-oziel-gomez-1578445-768x512.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-oziel-gomez-1578445-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-oziel-gomez-1578445-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-oziel-gomez-1578445-150x100.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-oziel-gomez-1578445-696x464.jpg 696w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-oziel-gomez-1578445-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-oziel-gomez-1578445-1920x1280.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Photo by Oziel Gómez on Pexels</figcaption></figure>

<p>Although fish is indeed a great treat for your Huskies, too much of anything is never good. Keep in mind that commercial dog food already features a balanced nutritional content that should have all of your Husky&#8217;s nutrient needs.</p>

<p>Treats, such as table scraps and fish, are not necessary, nutritionally speaking. Make sure that they only comprise about 10% of your dog&#8217;s daily food intake.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Final Thoughts</h2>

<p>So, can Huskies eat fish? Yes! <strong>Fish can be a healthy and delicious treat for your beloved pets, as long as you do it the right way.</strong></p>

<p>In this article, we learned that:</p>

<ul><li>Fish contains lots of beneficial nutrients and vitamins</li><li>Raw fish is not advisable because of the presence of pathogens</li><li>Smaller, short-lived fish are preferable</li><li>To be safe, avoid feeding Huskies fishbones</li><li>Keep treats, including fish, to a minimum</li></ul>

<p>Sweetcorn is a delicious treat full of antioxidants, essential calories, vitamin A, vitamin B complex, carotenoids, and other beneficial stuff. There&#8217;s no doubt that eating sweetcorn is healthy for the body &#8211; at least for humans. The big question is, is sweetcorn just as good for our beloved furbabies? Can Huskies eat sweetcorn, or will it have some adverse effect?</p>

<p>In this article, that&#8217;s exactly what we&#8217;re going to find out.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Can Huskies eat sweetcorn?</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="800" height="600" src="http://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/hari-nandakumar-Uy0rpZRYFOQ-unsplash.jpg" alt="sweetcorn" class="wp-image-85" srcset="https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/hari-nandakumar-Uy0rpZRYFOQ-unsplash.jpg 800w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/hari-nandakumar-Uy0rpZRYFOQ-unsplash-300x225.jpg 300w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/hari-nandakumar-Uy0rpZRYFOQ-unsplash-768x576.jpg 768w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/hari-nandakumar-Uy0rpZRYFOQ-unsplash-150x113.jpg 150w, https://huskyhabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/hari-nandakumar-Uy0rpZRYFOQ-unsplash-696x522.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /><figcaption>Photo by&nbsp;Hari Nandakumar&nbsp;on&nbsp;Unsplash</figcaption></figure>

<p>The short answer?&nbsp;<strong>Yes, Huskies&nbsp;<em>can</em>&nbsp;eat sweetcorn</strong>.</p>

<p>Sweetcorn can be an excellent treat for your Husky if you want to give them a bit of variety from the everyday meat-based treats. The wide array of nutrients found in it can also be good for their health. Plus, at 86 calories per 100 grams, sweetcorn is a good source of calories &#8211; enough to keep your dog&#8217;s energy levels high but not enough to cause unnecessary weight gain.</p>

<p>However, the answer is not always this simple.&nbsp;<strong>Corn, in general, can be a hazard to dogs, including Huskies.</strong>&nbsp;Dogs have a different mouth and digestive structure from humans, which may lead to some issues when feeding dogs sweetcorn. Various factors like choking hazards, indigestion, and allergies need to be considered so that your precious Husky can eat sweetcorn happily and safely.</p>

<p>As mentioned above, while Huskies can eat sweetcorn, it&#8217;s crucial to take some precautions before giving it to your Husky as a snack.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For one, you shouldn&#8217;t feed your Husky sweetcorn off the cob. Although the image of a Husky munching through a whole cob of corn may be adorable, keep in mind that some dogs can&#8217;t control their jaws well enough not to bite the cob itself.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As a result, they may end up eating a part of the cob along with the corn kernels. Since cobs are a choking hazard, this can put your dog in a potentially dangerous or <a href="https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/pets/a20707321/can-dogs-eat-corn-cobs/#:~:text=In%20fact%2C%20a%20woman%E2%80%99s%20social%20media%20post%20about%20her%202-year-old%20dog%20that%20ate%20a%20corn%20cob%20and%20died%20days%20later%20recently%20went%20viral." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">even fatal situation</a> if you&#8217;re not careful.</p>

<p>Also, avoid feeding your dog canned corn. Fresh kernels are always better. Opt for the unflavored kind and refrain from adding seasonings like butter and salt that make it yummier for humans.</p>

<p>In short, if you want your beloved Husky to enjoy this nutritious treat, make sure to feed him only fresh sweetcorn off the cob.</p>

<p>Sweetcorn is an excellent source of fiber. Although this is a good thing in most cases, too much fiber can cause your Husky to experience stomach cramps and indigestion.</p>

<p>To avoid this, only feed Huskies a few kernels at a time and definitely don&#8217;t allow them to eat too much in one day.</p>

<p>Remember, there&#8217;s no real reason why you should let your Husky eat a lot of corn. Commercial dog food already contains corn and other corn-based materials, so if your Husky is eating a well-balanced diet daily, he&#8217;s probably already getting enough of it.</p>

<p>Be careful when feeding your Husky sweetcorn for the first time. Like humans, some dogs may have allergies to sweetcorn that can cause adverse reactions.</p>

<p>If it&#8217;s your dog&#8217;s first time eating sweetcorn, observe his response first for 10-30 minutes. Stop feeding immediately if it seems like your Husky is experiencing discomfort.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Final Thoughts</h2>

<p><strong>Sweetcorn can be a sweet and yummy treat for your huskies, with lots of health benefits.</strong> However, there are a few things that we have to consider first before we feed it to our beloved Huskies.</p>

<ul><li>Huskies can eat sweetcorn, and they can benefit from the carbohydrates and other nutrients</li><li>The cob can become a choking hazard, so only feed them corn kernels off the cob</li><li>Don&#8217;t overfeed your Husky; some dog food already contains corn</li><li>Sweetcorn can cause indigestion, so don&#8217;t let them eat too much at a time</li><li>Avoid preserved and flavored sweet corn; natural is always better</li><li>Your dog can be allergic to sweetcorn; observe if feeding for the first time</li></ul>
